Downtown GenevaIn 1994, historic preservation leaders in Nebraska created a Main Street Coordinating program in partnership with the National Trust for Historic Preservation’s Main Street Center. A Lied Foundation Trust grant was secured and used to establish the program. In 1998, the gift was matched by an annual appropriation from the Nebraska Legislature. The combined resources of the Lied Foundation and State of Nebraska have been used to deliver direct technical assistance and support to designated Main Street communities. In 2008, Nebraska Main Street became a program of Heritage Nebraska, the new statewide historic preservation non-profit. Heritage Nebraska was created to improve and expand historic preservation efforts and resources beyond the historic commercial business district.
